Currently studying an Undergraduate Degree in Pharmaceutical Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Bioscience, Process engineering or related discipline.
Other requirements: You will have completed a minimum of 2 years of your undergraduate degree but will not have graduated at the start of your placement. You must be enrolled at a UK (United Kingdom) or ROI (Republic of Ireland) University for the duration of your placement.
If you have already graduated with a Bachelor's Degree and are currently studying a postgraduate Masters, you are not eligible for this programme.Language requirement: Written and spoken fluency in English
Expected Start date: July 2025
Duration: 1 year (approximately)
Salary: A salary of £24,700 plus a bonus.

The Roles (3 available)This advert contains multiple roles. Please read each description carefully before applying.Role 1 - Barnard CastleOverview of the Department
The Barnard Castle site is located in the Northeast of England and is sited within the County Durham countryside. Barnard Castle is a key secondary site for GSK with many New Products coming through development at site. We manufacture and supply a huge range of different pharmaceutical products from Sterile Products (Syringes and Vials) to Liquid Inhalations and Dermatologicals. The successful candidate will integrate into the support teams and be expected to deliver a business or compliance improvement project. Project specifics will be agreed at the time of placement depending on area activities and course of study - these may include specific improvement activities or product aligned support (e.g., Product campaign and improvements, inspection readiness, KPI monitoring and performance management).
Key Placement Activities
- Supporting New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Supporting manufacturing processes and equipment for existing products
- Continuous Improvement (CI) project delivery
- Co-ordination and implementation of planned change
- Supporting troubleshooting of processes and manufacturing investigations.
- Developing skills in continuous improvement and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)
Role 2 - WareOverview of the Department
Pharmaceutical Science at the Ware site encompasses two important departments: Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT), and Oral Solid Dose (OSD) production.
The MSAT team monitor the performance of products and platforms within the Oral Solid Dose, Respiratory and Micronising value streams. The department oversees all aspects of product lifecycle management, from introduction and scale up of newly developed R&D assets to ensuring robust and repeatable manufacture of commercialised pharmaceutical products.
The OSD department is responsible for managing all technical aspects of OSD commercial drug product support at the Ware GSK site. This includes product life cycle management, trouble shooting in Production, planned changes, process improvements, transfer of DPs to new facilities and to the other GSK/3rd party sites, support of regulatory filing and site audit activities.
Key Placement Activities
- Trouble shooting in Production of commercial OSD drug products
- Drug product transfers/validation projects for M2 building
- Managing cleaning validation and annual cleaning monitoring activities
- Leading deviation investigations and manufacturing investigations for atypical/OOS Lab results
- Involvement in manufacturing trials for newly developed products
- Supporting the Technologist team in delivering key milestones for new product development
- Writing technical protocols, reports, drug product impact assessments
- Monitoring performance of inhaled products manufactured at the Ware site
- Lead product performance investigations, working in conjunction with other members of the department, Laboratories and Operational Quality
- Support the management of risks associated with product performance
- Use Digital Data and Analytics tools to support the above activities
- Identify and deliver opportunities for improvement
- Understanding of dry powder inhalers, manufacture and testing
- Leading process improvement projects relating to transfer of products from R&D to GSC
Role 3 - WorthingOverview of the Department
The Worthing MSAT team is accountable for the control and quality of the product portfolio. We use data, science and risk assessment to ensure reproducible process delivering to our patients.
We are a key lever in creating opportunities through process improvement , simplification and strategic project delivery.
Key Placement Activities
- Oversight and control of Pharmaceutical Product Quality via the following means:
- Process & Cleaning Validation, contamination control.
- Process confirmation, & verification of the manufacturing facility and the product control strategy.
- Data analysis and trending.
- Manufacturing Process support & troubleshooting/investigations.
- Participation in improvement projects
- Understanding of Product Control Strategy and its execution within Manufacturing Science and Quality systems of pharmaceutical industry.
- Investigation and problem-solving experience.
- Making data driven proposals, owning and delivering small improvement projects and articulating the benefits.
- Understanding of business drivers in relation to product control
- Understanding of critical quality attributes in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
