The Senior Manager, Upstream Marketing for Skincare will help develop and execute the innovation pipeline and strategic long-term planning process for Allergan Aesthetics Skincare brands - SkinMedica® and DiamondGlow®.

This role will report into the Director, Upstream Marketing, and will work daily with cross-functional partners in R&D, Asset Strategy, Operations, Clinical Research, and Downstream Commercial Marketing to develop comprehensive product, positioning and launch strategies for topical skincare and device.

The Senior Manager will be an integral member of the skincare marketing team and will need to seamlessly manage multiple projects and project timelines across concept development, feasibility assessment, governance approval, and execution. This role requires a blend of high-level strategic thinking, creativity, attention to detail, business acumen and comfort with forecasting and margin analysis.

Critical to the role will be strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a comfort leading across organization levels and functional areas. You, with the Director, will own the innovation projects and be responsible for driving them to completion with a high standard of excellence. This role must have demonstrated product positioning and brand management experience, with experience working across functions of the business. A demonstrated ability to manage projects within timeline and within budget, with ability to anticipate and pivot as needed by the business.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Determine strategy and develop briefs (Target Product Profiles) for innovation across topical skincare and device. This requires:
    • Developing a strong, working knowledge of the competitive landscape in skincare (professional and luxury) and facial device, and understanding ingredient, marketing, and benefit trends
    • Leading initial financial analysis inclusive of COGs targets based on margin needs and forecasting by SKU, month, and channel (with inputs from downstream and sales)
    • Working with clinical research to develop competitive claims and benefits endpoints across platforms and individual SKUs
  • Determine innovation feedback and research plan, inclusive of:
    • Robust market research to finalize and substantiate innovation plans
      • Requires the development of concepts, stimulus, and attending focus groups
    • Partnering with Strategic Communications for Health Care Professional Advisory Boards
      • Cadence of attendance, stimulus, and attending/presenting as applicable
    • Summarizing and actioning inputs
  • Help execute the innovation process through artwork management
    • Inclusive of copy development, artwork briefs and routing, proofs, and ensuring timelines are met
  • Manage portfolio rationalization, including:
    • Recommending optimization of low-performing SKUs
    • Managing discontinuations - communication with sales teams, operational execution

Work with Director to lead development of Long-Range Planning Process for executive presentation, with inputs from cross-functional team members
