Transportation Safety and DOT Manager (Caldwell, ID)

Summary

This role will be responsible for leading compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations, developing a driver safety program, and driving cultural change and transformation leading to a safe fleet and National over-the-road fleet transportation model.  Will be responsible for ensuring the truck fleet operations are compliant to DOT regulations including monitoring safety ratings, driver qualification files, and documentation requirements. Additionally, this role is responsible for the driver safety program including preventive measures, training, and workers comp management. In implementing a National over-the-road fleet program, the role will be responsible for drivers’ safety and state regulations across the United States to ensure safety of drivers and within our external communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, lead and drive a Safety culture and design, drive business and safety transformation, implement and manage internal and external Safety program and incentive program
• Serve as DOT compliance and safety program subject matter expert, lead driver management, and ensure and advise for full compliance with all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration)/DOT regulations in coordination with Company policies and procedures
• Monitor and report Hours-of-Service regulations, ELD usage (electronic logbooks following driver max hour requirements), pre/post trip inspections and FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) requirements
• Develop, lead and implement driver on-boarding and training programs
• Develop, lead, and supervise the company driver safety program including post-accident and post-injury investigations. Determine root cause analysis through investigations and develop root cause mitigation programs. Develop and measure safety metrics and partner with HR on Workers Comp Management.

Typical Education

Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university

Relevant Experience

• 5+ years of DOT safety and compliance experience highly preferred.
• 5+ years’ experience with Fleet admin and DOT preferred.
• 3 years’ experience with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) preferred.

Other Information

• Able to travel up to 40 - 60% of the time and occasional travel may be on short notice.
• Highly organized and detail-oriented individual with experience with phone, email, chat, and social communication channels.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
• Proven ability to collaborate with people cross functionally and multi-task.
• Must be capable of and willing to respond to emergencies during off shift, weekends, and/or holidays.
