Dagen is recruiting a contract Payroll Specialist for an Oil & Gas company located in the Energy Corridor.
This role will be responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll for exempt, non-exempt, and hourly employees across multiple states while ensuring compliance with payroll laws, company policies, and HR best practices. The ideal candidate will have strong payroll experience, experience with multi-state payroll processing, and a solid understanding of HR administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Process bi-weekly payroll for exempt, non-exempt, and hourly employees across 10 different states using Paycom
- Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time, including wages, overtime, bonuses, deductions, garnishments, and tax withholdings
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
- Reconcile payroll discrepancies and resolve employee payroll-related issues in a timely manner
- Manage payroll changes including new hires, terminations, promotions, compensation updates, and benefits deductions
- Support HR functions including onboarding, employee records management, benefits administration, and policy compliance
- Assist with workers' compensation, unemployment claims, and leave tracking
- Maintain confidentiality of employee information and payroll records
- Prepare payroll reports, audits, and supporting documentation as needed
- Partner with leadership to ensure HR and payroll processes are efficient and compliant
- Support year-end payroll activities including W-2 processing and audits
- Stay current on payroll laws, labor regulations, and HR best practices
Qualifications
- 5+ years of payroll
- Experience processing multi-state payroll
- Hands-on experience with Paycom required
- Systems implementation, preferred
- Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements
- Experience processing payroll for exempt, non-exempt, and hourly employees
- Knowledge of HR processes including onboarding, benefits administration, employee relations, and records management
- High attention to detail and strong analytical/problem-solving skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
- Experience in the oil & gas, industrial, manufacturing, or field services industry
- Knowledge of multi-location workforce support
