Summary The inpatient staff speech pathologist (SLP) will have the education, knowledge and skill to provide inpatient services, focusing on functional skills to enhance development, restore function and to prevent disability from pediatric conditions, illness and injury in an acute medical setting. Evaluation, treatment and home programming are provided for children primarily with feeding and swallowing disorders, or new onset articulation, voice, resonance, fluency, and receptive/expressive language disorders. The SLP will provide speech language and feeding services for patients admitted to hospital. The SLP is also responsible for providing swallow function studies for both inpatients and outpatients in collaboration with the radiologist. The position will include patient and caregiver education and consultation to other medical professionals, clinics and agencies, both within Cook Children’s Health Care System and within the community.
