Position Summary:This position will support new product development projects and procurement tenders. The responsibility of this position is to provide engineering expertise in development, evaluation, analysis, and/or product engineering functions on aftermarket automotive parts distributed by NAPA.
Responsibilities:Product Evaluation- Conduct product teardowns for should-cost modeling and provide inputs to cost modeling tool. Present findings and align within engineering peers on should-cost models.
- Conduct product teardowns for competitive comparison and benchmarking in support for marketing collaterals.
- Conduct product analysis on product samples from different suppliers with the goal of managing risk for the business, customers and end-users and meeting customer requirements.
- Develop testing requirements for products, working with Suppliers, Industry experts, outside consulting agencies, Testing labs, engineers within GPC and independent research.
- Manage testing of products with Suppliers, third party agencies and internal labs.
Product Introduction- Develop product requirements per Brand tiers in accordance with the Category strategy. Translate product features as defined by Product Manager into engineering specification requirements.
- Support the New Product Introduction process in terms of reviewing Product Submission Warrants and ensuring that they meet the NAPA standards.
- Partner with suppliers to ensure on time execution of next products and programs.
- Assist with the onboarding of new product lines and data analysis of products.
Supplier and Product Compliance- Assist in executing best in class Supplier and Product compliance program through data review and analysis.
- Ensure product quality standards are documented correctly and issues are escalated to the required parties.
- Support investigation of field quality issues, as required.
- Work with third parties and cross functional teams to compile quality information and audits.
Product Execution- Support internal customer meetings, presentations, and Global Tender product category support of Sourcing and Merchandising team.
- Understand assigned product line and grow the ability to provide insight into the product line through existing product analysis.
- Analyze features and specifications of each product line to understand differences in parts and report information.
- Support Cost management teammates with opportunity sizing and internal strategy, where required.
- Provides technical assistance to production and inspection areas at Suppliers, where required.
- Ensure timely and profitable execution of multiple projects simultaneously by applying best project management practices.
- Assist in equipment maintenance, SOP development in the engineering lab, ensuring safety and security.
Experience, Education, and Abilities:- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or similar
- Work experience of 2-4 years
- Experience in manufacturing and quality preferred
- Automotive Background is a plus, but not required
- Understanding & Knowledge of automotive systems
- Product costing experience highly desired
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Experience using various computer applications including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other applications in the Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work across all internal departments to drive projects to on-time completion.
- Highly motivated individual that has a strong drive for results; communicates effectively both in written and verbal communication formats.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Consumer/Customer centric thinking and problem solving skills
