As a Benefits Administrator, you’ll administer a wide range of benefit programs and leave processes, ensuring compliance and delivering exceptional service to employees across the organization.
Job Summary As directed by the Benefits Supervisor, you will administer benefits-related programs and processes. This includes overseeing benefit enrollment for new employees, approving enrollments in benefit software, and entering and authorizing participant status changes and terminations in benefit systems/HRIS. You will complete enrollment and termination reporting to vendors, research eligibility and payroll deduction issues, and process payroll adjustments for mid-month benefit changes. You’ll educate employees on benefit plans, provide exceptional customer service, and participate in onsite visits during Open Enrollment. Compliance with company policies and federal/state regulations (FMLA, HIPAA, COBRA, IRC) is essential. Additional assignments and duties may be required.
What You’ll Do - Administer benefit programs including health, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement plans (pension and 457), wellness programs, tuition assistance, and onsite care clinics.
- Manage leave programs such as FMLA, STD, LTD, bereavement, military, and parental leave.
- Serve as a trusted resource for employees, providing education and guidance on benefit options and processes.
- Partner with vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate enrollment, eligibility, and payments.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations (e.g., FMLA, HIPAA, COBRA, ERISA).
- Process benefit transactions and status changes in applicable systems.
- Support continuous improvement of benefit workflows and employee experience.
Minimum Qualifications Education/Training - Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Human Resource Management, or related field.
Experience - Two years of direct experience administering benefit plans.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge - Laws and requirements related to defined benefit and defined contribution plans, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, and ERISA.
- Pension plans, 401(a) defined contribution, and/or 457(b) deferred compensation plans preferred.
- Understanding of benefit contracts and provisions preferred.
Skills - Intermediate proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to assist individuals in stressful situations (e.g., death, disability).
- Detail-oriented with strong math, research, and database skills.
Abilities - Solve complex benefits-related issues.
- Understand IRS and DOL regulations.
- Work confidently with plan participants and third parties at all levels.
- Reconcile monthly billings and maintain accurate records.
- Regular and predictable attendance required.
