Function/Duties of Position The Postdoctoral Scholar will conduct scientific and clinical research in the field of biomedical optical imaging and dentistry. The postdoc will develop next generation optical coherence tomography (OCT) technologies tailored for dental applications, including designing and building a handheld OCT probe for imaging inside the oral cavity and advancing software analyzing algorithms for structural and angiographic assessment of the tooth and periodontal tissue. The postdoc will also work closely with dentists and residents to translate the developed OCT imaging technology and biomarker for guiding dental procedures.
Required Qualifications - PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Optics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: OCT, image processing, statistics, programing (e.g., MATLAB, Python, C/C++), machine learning, optical design (e.g., Zemax)
- Detail oriented and meticulous in all aspects of work
- Requires exceptional organizational skills, strong communication skills with the public as well as with physicians/researchers, and exceptional database management abilities
- Strong follow-through skills and ability to pro-actively identify and solve problems
- Demonstrated innovation, initiative, and problem-solving skills are imperative
- Ability to work well independently and multi-task is critical
- The ability to work well with team members is essential
- Familiarity with research design, statistics, and use of computers for research is preferred
- Working knowledge of computer software including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Photoshop is desired
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good time management skills and attention to details
- Ability to meet deadlines, and willingness to serve as a positive and professional role model
- Must have demonstrated record of reliable attendance, punctuality and proven successful performance in past and present
- The postdoc must be able to perform tasks relevant to designing and building optical instruments and safe operation of lab equipment
- He/She must receive laser safety training and use appropriate protective equipment
Preferred Qualifications - Experience with clinical ophthalmic imaging using OCT and/or other optical imaging modalities are highly desirable
