A Lab Manager -I position is available in the Michael Telias lab of the University of Pittsburgh, Ophthalmology Department.
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree + 3 years of hands-on biological laboratory work.
- A Master’s or PhD degree (preferred).
Job Summary
Acts as operational laboratory manager to oversee general day-to-day operations and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and protocols. Evaluates new products, negotiates vendor prices, and instructs staff and researchers in quality control and proper procedures.
Essential Functions
The job carried out by the Manager - Lab I at the Telias Lab will have three separate components
A) Hands-on Scientific Research. Manager - Lab I will be Scientific Lead or Co-Lead on 2-3 research projects investigating molecular and physiological mechanisms of eye diseases in mouse models.
Duties include:
• Extensive work with mouse strains, including multiple retinal disease models, knock-out and transgenic lines, some under specialized rearing conditions. Responsibilities encompass animal husbandry, genotyping, breeding strategies, and euthanasia, with a strong emphasis on experimental rigor and compliance.
B) Assistance in Scientific Research. Manager – Lab I provides comprehensive executive, scientific, technical and experimental support across multiple projects led by postdocs and students; by generating, processing, and curating biological samples and by developing tools that enable and accelerate laboratory-wide research efforts.
C) Executive Administration and Management. The Manager – Lab I at the Telias Lab will provide comprehensive administrative, regulatory, and operational leadership to ensure efficient, compliant, and sustainable laboratory operations.
