Director, Corporate Taxation – NV Energy

NV Energy is seeking an accomplished Director, Corporate Taxation to lead all tax functions for our regulated electric and gas utility. This executive-facing role oversees tax accounting (ASC 740 & ASC 980), compliance, regulatory tax strategy, planning, and policy support. You’ll partner across finance, regulatory, and operations to optimize our tax position while ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
This is a high impact leadership role with visibility across the enterprise and responsibility for guiding tax strategy in rate cases, major capital initiatives, clean energy projects, and corporate transactions.
What You’ll Do- Directs preparation and review of consolidated and separate federal and state income/franchise tax returns, estimated payments, and extensions; ensures accurate e‑filing and maintenance of workpapers.
- Oversees quarterly and annual income tax provision, rate reconciliation, deferred tax roll forward, valuation allowance assessments, and tax footnote disclosures, coordinates with external auditors.
- Leads regulatory tax accounting and reporting, tax policy research, tax analyses for rate cases, riders, and trackers (normalization, EDIT/ADIT, protected/unprotected balances); prepares testimony, testifies in regulatory hearings and responds to discovery; aligns with FERC/USOA and GAAP.
- Monitors legislative and regulatory developments for business planning process; evaluates implications for capital projects, financing, and transactions; recommends and implements value‑accretive, compliant strategies.
- Manages IRS and state examinations relationships, appeals, and correspondence; oversees information requests; negotiates and resolves issues while minimizing risk.
- Builds, mentors, and develops a high‑performing tax team; allocates resources, sets priorities, and drives continuous improvement and cross‑training across finance and regulatory.
- Oversees sales/use, gross receipts, excise, and property tax compliance, assessments, and appeals, coordinates with jurisdictions and external advisors.
- Maintains SOX‑compliant internal controls, policies, and procedures; stewards tax technology and data governance; ensure FERC/GAAP coding accuracy.
- Oversees monthly tax accruals, cash tax forecasting, and balance‑of‑year updates, partners with FP&A and treasury on liquidity planning.
- Supports transactions, coordinates and works with corporate holding company, major capital projects, renewable/clean energy initiatives, and system implementations; performs tax due diligence and modeling.
- Monitors and enforces all compliance requirements for area of responsibility.
- Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company.
Qualifications
What You Bring- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
- 10 plus years of progressive corporate tax experience, including 3 plus years leading teams.
- CPA required.
- Deep expertise in U.S. federal and state income tax, ASC 740, FIN 48, and tax disclosure requirements.
- Experience in regulated utilities (FERC/USOA, ASC 980) strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with tax provision/compliance systems, ERP environments, and Excel/BI tools.
- Strong analytical, communication, and executive‑ready writing skills.
- Ability to partner effectively with finance, regulatory, legal, operations, and external auditors.
