The
Sr. Principal, HRIS will join an innovative People & Culture (HR) team focused on maximizing Blackbaud’s Workday HCM investment and enabling strategic transformation across the global People & Culture function. This role serves as the organization’s
Workday technical authority , responsible for guiding HR and IT partners through strategic design decisions, complex configuration, and enterprise level change initiatives.
As a trusted advisor to senior leadership, the Sr. Principal will influence long term HR technology strategy, ensure governance excellence, and deliver scalable Workday solutions that support organizational growth.
What You’ll Do Workday Leadership & Expertise - Serve as the primary Workday subject matter expert , advising HR and partnering with IT stakeholders on optimal configuration, architecture, workflow design, and best practice system utilization to support strategic priorities.
- Lead HR through end t o end Workday solutioning , including scoping, functional design, testing, deployment, and change adoption.
- Collaborate with IT partners to provide governance oversight, ensuring all Workday changes align with enterprise standards, data integrity requirements, and long term scalability.
- Coordinate and lead Workday release management , including feature evaluation, downstream impact assessment, testing strategy, and organization wide enablement of new functionality.
- Partner closely with IT to ensure Workday security, integrations, and system health are optimized and aligned with enterprise technology architecture.
Strategic Change Enablement - Translate business strategies into Workday enabled solutions , identifying opportunities to enhance processes, reduce manual work, and enable a consistent global employee experience.
- Lead cross functional planning for major system enhancements and enterprise initiatives, ensuring clarity of requirements, deployment expectations, and long term sustainability.
- Serve as the strategic advisor to HR leaders , helping them understand how Workday capabilities can modernize processes and elevate operational impact.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Finance, IT, HR Operations, and business units to ensure alignment on system roadmap and change priorities.
Operational Excellence - Provide advanced Workday troubleshooting and consultation to HR and IT partners, ensuring timely resolution of issues and high system reliability.
- Oversee the design of advanced Workday reports, dashboards, and analytics that deliver actionable insights to leaders and support data driven decision-making.
- Support HRIS team operations, including configuration lifecycle management, documentation, UAT oversight, audit readiness, and data governance excellence.
What You’ll Bring: - Extensive, hands on Workday experience across multiple functional areas (e.g., Core HCM, Compensation, Absence, Talent, Security, Integrations, Reporting).
- Proven experience leading Workday implementations, enhancements, or module expansions , including design through deployment.
- Demonstrated ability to guide cross functional teams through complex, enterprise scale Workday changes.
- Strong understanding of global HR processes, regulatory requirements, and data governance standards.
- Ability to translate ambiguous business needs into clear, scalable Workday solutions.
- Experience creating Workday dashboards, matrix reports, and advanced analytics (preferred).
- Strong customer support orientation, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non technical stakeholders.
- Advanced problem solving skills, including root cause analysis and solution design.
- Curiosity and eagerness to explore emerging technologies, including AI and machine learning within the Workday ecosystem.
