Position Summary: The Field Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing safety programs and initiatives at field job sites, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, and reducing risks to personnel and property. This role is vital in maintaining a culture of safety across the organization and ensuring the well-being of employees in the field.
Key Responsibilities: - Safety Program Development and Implementation:
- Develop and implement safety programs and procedures to meet regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
- Ensure all field workers are trained and equipped to handle potential safety risks.
- Conduct regular safety audits and assessments to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Oversee the development and execution of emergency response plans for field operations.
- Training and Education:
- Deliver safety training sessions for field personnel, including hazard recognition, PPE usage, and emergency procedures.
- Monitor the effectiveness of training programs and update materials as necessary.
- Deliver commercial driver training and perform road test examinations for DOT and CDL drivers.
- Maintain accurate records of safety training and certifications.
- Site Inspections and Audits:
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify safety hazards, assess risk levels, and recommend corrective actions.
- Lead safety audits and work with supervisors to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Conduct gate checks for DVIR compliance.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay up-to-date on current safety regulations and industry standards.
- Ensure that field operations comply with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and assist in the preparation of safety-related reports for regulatory agencies.
- Communication and Reporting:
- Maintain open communication with field personnel, management, and other stakeholders to address safety concerns and provide updates on safety performance.
- Report safety performance metrics, incidents, and corrective actions to senior management.
- Provide safety updates during pre-job briefings and regular team meetings.
- Incident Management:
- Lead investigations of workplace injuries, vehicle accidents and near-miss incidents, providing detailed reports identifying root causes, corrective actions and recommending improvements to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure the proper documentation and reporting of incidents, including near misses and injuries.
- Coordinate with insurance providers, regulatory bodies, and other relevant parties when required.
- Risk Management:
- Identify and assess jobsite safety risks, high-consequence SIF (Serious Injury and Fatality) incidents, and providing guidance on the implementation of effective elimination or mitigation strategies.
- Develop and enforce safety policies and procedures tailored to specific field operations.
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure safety considerations are integrated into project planning and execution.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Occupational Health, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of three years of experience in field safety management, construction, or industrial settings.
- In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management software.
Physical Requirements: - Mobility: Ability to travel regularly to field sites (80-90%), often in remote or construction environments. Ability to walk long distances across uneven terrain, climb ladders, and navigate through construction zones or industrial sites. Ability to bend, kneel, and squat to inspect equipment, safety setups, and identify hazards at ground level.
- Endurance: Willingness to work in varying weather conditions, such as extreme heat, cold, or rain. Physical stamina to stay active for extended periods, particularly during site inspections, audits, and safety training sessions.
- Lifting: Ability to lift and carry safety equipment, tools, or materials weighing up to 25 pounds (depending on the job site). Must be able to move and position personal protective equipment (PPE), safety barriers, or safety signs as required.
- Vision and Hearing: Good vision to inspect job sites for potential hazards, read safety signs and labels, and spot unsafe conditions. Clear hearing to detect hazards in noisy environments (e.g., machinery, heavy equipment) and communicate effectively with the team.
- Stamina and Agility: Ability to respond quickly to emergencies or accidents on-site. Flexibility and agility to maneuver around potential hazards in the field.
