Basic PurposeOversees long term power trading activities and supports leadership with regulatory requirements and ad hoc projects. Provides support for day ahead and real time trading desks and oversees training efforts for new trading personnel. Monitors market fundamentals related to energy markets and provides updates to senior leadership and other company stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOversees approved long term trading strategies.
- Manages the creation and send out of RFP documents
- Reviews and analyzes RFP responses and executes on transactions
- Performs analysis to identify optimal mix of reliable and economic market supply from a pool of diverse market resources
- Works with leadership to continuously refine and improve approved long term trading strategies
Supports day ahead and real time power trading desks.
- Covers trading and scheduling responsibilities as needed for day ahead power trading
- Covers trading and scheduling responsibilities as needed for real time power trading
- Submits bids into the California ISO and Western Energy Imbalance Market and monitors results
Monitors energy market fundamentals.
- Reviews market fundamental subscription services and identifies important information that could impact NV Energy trading activities
- Provides training to trading staff on how to use market fundamental services, query data, and interpret provided analysis
- Monitors news and updates from the California ISO that could impact long term purchase strategies
- Produces presentations or recaps as needed for senior leadership
Provides training to new trading personnel and continually reviews and refines existing training documents and procedures.
Prepares testimony, participates in discovery, and represents the Company in regulatory proceedings related to power trading activities.
Completes ad hoc projects assigned by senior leadership.
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Essential Education, Skills, and EnvironmentEducation and Work Experience Bachelor's degree from an accredited school and 6 years of related work experience.
Candidates that do not possess a bachelor's degree must have a minimum of 10 years of related work experience.
Specialized Knowledge and SkillsDemonstrated knowledge of:
- Power trading activities.
- Power and gas RFP processes.
- CAISO
- Transmission and scheduling
- Power and gas market fundamentals.
- FERC, NERC, and WECC regulations/guidelines and WSPP agreements.
Demonstrated skills such as:
- Analytical, interpersonal and communication
- Written and verbal skills to allow communication to all levels of management, regulators, and public audiences.
Equipment and Applications PCs, word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs
Work Environment and Physical Demands Works as needed to manage 24x7 operations which includes nights, weekends and holidays. General office environment. No special physical demands required.
