Position Title: Drafting Technician - High Voltage Engineering

Description:
The drafting technician creates highly technical electronic drawings for electrical engineering and other energy delivery projects. The drafting technician performs drafting work of a highly technical nature in various disciplines including communications, landscaping, gas and right of way. The drafting technician provides other technical support services such as assisting with design work, developing cost estimates, creating project completion report spreadsheets, ordering nameplates, assembling construction project books and assisting with the maintenance of the project records database.
Responsibilities:
Create drawings, maps, sketches and diagrams for substations and the high voltage distribution system based on experience and engineering instructions using computer-aided drafting software and hardware. (35%)
Update and modify drawings based on information gathered in the field or based on information provided for new projects at existing facilities. (30%)
Convert manual drawings to electronic file format using computer technology. (10%)
Provide copies of new and updated drawings to internal customer groups who rely upon the information for design purposes. Distribute updated drawings to many internal customers to meet their safety and operational needs. Distribute copies of drawings to meet federal energy regulatory commission and other governing body requirements. (5-10%)
Maintain files of computer and manual drawings of record. (1-5%)
Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning. (1-5 %)
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (1-5%)
Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques.
Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the electric transmission and distribution system.
Qualifications:
Associate degree in drafting, eighteen months of trade or technical school in drafting or equivalent.
Two to three years of related experience.
Ability to use computer-aided drafting equipment including personal computers, plotters, printers, scanners and copiers.
Ability to use MicroStation or Auto computer-aided design drafting software and other drafting related software such as hybrid (raster/vector), electronic document management system, symbol library and aerial photography manipulation.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
