The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures seeks applications for a preceptor in French language. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2026. The preceptor will teach two language courses in French per semester and assist in the training and supervision of teaching fellows and teaching assistants.
This position is for three years, pending first year review, renewable for a term of up to five additional years (for a total of eight years), and contingent on performance, enrollments, curricular need, position availability, and divisional dean authorization.
Basic Qualifications
The successful applicant should have native or near native proficiency in French, be well versed in the issues of teaching French as a foreign language, have experience in teaching all levels of French, and be able to teach and coordinate intermediate and upper-level French language courses such as advanced composition and content-based language and culture courses. Experience in course coordination and curriculum design is required.
Additional Qualifications
A specialization in French pedagogy and/or second language acquisition is highly desirable and experience in community-based language learning is preferred along with a strong doctoral record.

Salary range: $70,300-$78,300. Pay offered to the selected candidate is dependent on factors such as years of experience, training or qualification, field of scholarship, and accomplishments in the field. This position may be represented by the Harvard Academic Workers (HAW) - UAW for purposes of collective bargaining and matters affecting your compensation and working conditions.
