Job Summary
The Gatton College of Business and Economics Facilities Department is looking to add a new staff member to the team to assist with tasks around the college related to the general maintenance and upkeep of the facility and grounds around the building, events and furniture set up and breakdown, light housekeeping tasks and other routine and general tasks related to the function, appearance and condition of the College building and its facilities.
The Gatton College is a 210,000 + square foot facility that is home to nearly 5,000
students, and over 150 staff and faculty. The Gatton College will be undergoing a building renovation during the next couple of years to add an additional 80,000+/- square feet to make it around a 300,000 square foot facility under roof once completed. It currently houses state of the art technology, 21 classrooms, a 500 seat auditorium, 42 group study rooms, a plethora of conference rooms, multiple open lounge and study spaces, an event space, various other labs and specialty spaces, as well as a variety of support spaces such as kitchenettes, copy rooms, and mail rooms, mechanical rooms etc... The upcoming renovation will add additional classrooms, offices, study rooms, additional high technology spaces, an AI innovation center, collaborative faculty and student spaces, an events areas and much more.
In Gatton B&E, we are looking for staff members who embody a level of top bar excellence, that work well with others and take pride in their work and work environment.
• Responsible for changing water filters in multiple refrigerators and ice machines in the building on a regular scheduled basis.
• Responsible for changing batteries in door locks throughout the building and maintaining a document of battery changes.
• Move and arrange furniture in classrooms, conference rooms, lounges, study areas and common areas on a regular basis. Including but not limited to organizing and straightening up all furniture in all conference rooms, study rooms, public area, and classrooms throughout the building on a routine basis.
• Moving of office furniture and other bulky items without damaging items or the facility, to assist with personnel office moves and facility events.
• Assist faculty staff and students with office furniture moves or rearrangement, and installation and removal of wall hung items, such as pictures, whiteboards and or tack boards etc..
• Keep all classrooms, conference room and study rooms stocked with necessary whiteboard supplies (Whiteboard markers, erasers, etc).
• Keep all classrooms, conference room and study rooms furniture in order ensure the proper number of chairs, desks and tables are present in all areas.
• Maintain detailed Excel spreadsheets and or data entry into in-house reporting software that record activities such as space database inventory, warranty lists, inventory of furniture found in offices and classrooms, dates of door lock batteries changed, dates and locations of furniture movements, record of when filters have been changed, etc.
• Assist with yearly space database input including but not limited to touring the building confirming office occupants and entering and editing the ebars database for yearly occupancy and usage rates.
• Tour facility regularly reporting any maintenance repairs needed. Enter and track work requests for maintenance repairs, custodial needs and other facility related maintenance issues. Cultivate a watchful eye on the facility and maintain a sense of ownership of the building and its occupants.
• Report anything that seems out of place or potentially hazardous to supervisor.
• Monitor building AED and NARCAN safety equipment stations to confirm that they are stocked and ready for use in the event of emergencies.
• Light general housekeeping tasks as needed. Cleaning, changing out paper towels, soap dispensers, and toilet paper. Sweeping, vacuuming, spot carpet cleaning and other basic janitorial duties on an as needed basis. The building has a full time custodial staff to handle the major custodial duties therefore this position will only need to assist with light duty custodial help on an as needed basis when additional support or over flow is needed.
• Be available to assist event coordinators on a regular basis to help set up and break down events including but not limited to moving tables and chairs, signs, and events support equipment such as signage and waste containers.
• Assist with light housekeeping duties after events such as help clean up and wipe down tables and furniture, take out trash and waste, and vacuum and sweep floors as needed.
• Minor maintenance repairs as needed and assigned. Prior maintenance experience preferred and overall mechanical ability a must.
• Simple repairs and assembly of desks, cabinets, and other furniture.
• Check and lock doors throughout facility in evenings or weekend when the facility should be closed.
• Work with and monitor the buildings evening shift security guards and their duties to ensure the building and its occupants safety.
• Monitor the facilities email and ticketing page and facilities phone to provide assistance to the best of your ability as needed.
• Other tasks as assigned by facility specialist and or facility director.
• Must be a self-starter be able to work unsupervised and have attention to detail.
• 2p-10:30p M-F typical shift, with flexibility to work some Weekends and Days as needed.
