ResponsibilitiesThis is a full-time hybrid position based in the San Diego, CA area (Miramar). This role includes working onsite 2 days per week at our Technical Research Center, with remaining days worked remotely.We are looking for a Content Specialist 1 to support our Content Management organization by collecting, processing, and publishing vehicle dimensions data used for collision repair. In this role, you will collect, analyze, and document critical vehicle measurement data that supports the Mitchell Collision Repair Database and various repair and estimating applications used throughout the automotive industry. This is a hands-on, team-based role, you'll help measure undamaged vehicles using specialized equipment, create technical drawings and images, and ensure accurate data is captured and entered into our systems. You'll also help build and maintain relationships with local dealerships and industry partners to support vehicle sourcing. Additional duties include:
- Assist with onsite vehicle measurement and data collection, including 3D scanning, probing, and capturing height/width/length coordinates.Operate safely in a shop environment, including supporting vehicle lifting on a 2-post lift and following required safety procedures.Use basic hand tools (e.g., torque wrench, impact tools, sockets) to remove/reinstall wheels and panels as needed for access to measurement points.Capture and organize digital photos and prepare images for use in final deliverables.Create and update technical drawings/illustrations (e.g., underbody "blueprint" style layouts) using CAD tools such as AutoCAD.Process collected data remotely on non-measurement days, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely entry into internal databases.Collaborate closely with a two-person measurement team and onsite leadership to coordinate daily workload and maintain a safe working environment.Communicate professionally with local dealerships and other partners to help source vehicles for measurement, explaining the purpose and process clearly.Support ongoing improvements to data collection and processing workflows to increase consistency and efficiency.Maintain clear documentation and follow established standards to ensure published content meets quality expectations.
QualificationsEducation: High School diploma or equivalent
Experience: - 1-5 years of relevant experience in automotive collision/repair, technical research, vehicle inspection, or related technical content/data environments.
- Experience collecting, documenting, and processing technical data with strong attention to detail.
- Familiarity with vehicle measurement concepts and tools (e.g., metrology equipment, 3D scanning, probing/coordinate measurement) preferred; willingness to learn required.
- Working knowledge of CAD/drafting tools (e.g., AutoCAD or similar) preferred.
- Experience with digital photo capture and basic image editing (e.g., Photoshop or similar) preferred.
- Comfortable working in a shop-style environment around vehicles, with a strong focus on safety (including working around a vehicle lift).
- Ability to use basic hand tools as needed (e.g., torque wrench, lug tools, impact tools) for access during measurement and documentation.
- Strong computer proficiency and ability to troubleshoot basic hardware/software issues in a technical workflow.
- Clear, professional communication skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with dealership/OEM contacts.
- Team-oriented mindset and ability to collaborate closely with others during in-facility work (often in a two-person workflow).
- Must be able to work a hybrid schedule in the San Diego area (Miramar) approximately 2 days per week, with remote work on non-measurement days.
- Automotive certifications such as ASE and/or I-CAR are a plus.
- Clean driving record preferred, as the role may involve shuttling vehicles and/or picking up vehicles from local dealerships.
