Duties include but are not limited to:Administrative Support (50 Percent)
The incumbent receives veterans at the front desk and determines what is needed. They will render decisions on client eligibility for prosthetic devices and review request for prosthetic devices from a physician. They will issue items from Prosthetic Stock and post to the veteran's Prosthetic Record (2319) by using the Suspense record in the VistA system. They will counsel patients and provide instructions to patients in the use of prosthetic devices or schedule appointments for patents requiring services from the Prosthetic/Orthotic lab.
Inventory and Consult Management (30 Percent)
The incumbent also answers phone calls and assist the Inventory Manager with mail-outs as needed. They will review consults for eligibility and take action as needed. They will forward consults to other clinics as appropriate. They will sort and distribute printed consults to the appropriate purchasing agents for items that must be ordered (non-stock or out of stock items). The incumbent will also assist with the Clothing Allowance and Home Improvement & Structural Alterations (HISA) programs by providing applications to patients.
Purchase Requests (20 Percent)
The incumbent will also purchase minor items of DME and assist with the Prosthetics Service Card (PSC) program to repair braces, wheelchairs, and prosthetic limbs up to the micro purchase threshold (currently set at $3000.00). The incumbent will help review and check in packages in the prosthetic area and warehouse when requested and make the appropriate notes in the Vista System. The incumbent performs other related duties as may be directed by the Chief, Assistant Chief, or Prosthetic Representatives that are required to accomplish the mission of the Prosthetic Treatment Center.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 to 4:30pm

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary, requiring some walking, climbing, and carrying light to medium-heavy stock items of up to 50 pounds. The incumbent may potentially, although infrequently if at all, handle equipment returned from veterans with contagious diseases.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

GS-05 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: APPLIES TECHNOLOGY TO TASK - Records the receipt and issuance of equipment and supplies and stores them for use.; CLERICAL - Receives phone call, correspondence and visits from various individuals.; CONTRACTING/PROCUREMENT - Purchase items and verifies accuracy of invoices.; CUSTOMER SERVICE - Skilled ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and with varying levels of understanding. .; PRODUCTION and PROCESSING - Determines eligibility, prepare requisitions, and purchasing items.
ORApplicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-05 level.ORApplicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level.To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05.
