Health Sciences Research IT is seeking a DBA / Data Warehouse Architect to join our team serving the schools of the health sciences. This position is primarily focused on ETL pipeline development and data warehouse architecture, with traditional DBA responsibilities supporting these activities in a research intensive environment.
The role works collaboratively with internal team members and research groups to design, implement, and execute data ingestion and transformation pipelines. These pipelines support dozens of concurrent research projects and may ingest thousands of files or single, TB scale datasets in a variety of formats.
The candidate will support a large number of research groups and projects, working closely with project analysts and Principal Investigators (PIs) to translate research requirements into performant, analytics ready data structures. Strong communication and the ability to balance new development with operational support are essential to success in this role.
Job Summary
Supports multiple more complex services/databases; designs, develops, manages, and maintains databases. Plans and maintains database architecture and reporting. Optimizes database functions and implements integrated architecture and reporting updates. Trains and guides lower-level staff.
Essential Functions
• Design, implement, and execute ETL pipelines for data ingestion and transformation
• Support ingestion of high volume, multi format data, including thousands of files and very large (TB scale) datasets
• Develop and maintain analytics ready datasets based on project specifications
• Translate research and analytical requirements into efficient, scalable data warehouse structures
• Optimize query performance using SQL Server, including advanced queries, stored procedures, indices, views, functions, and execution plans
• Perform supporting DBA functions, including permissions management, performance tuning, and monitoring
• Collaborate closely with project analysts, Principal Investigators, and other DBAs/data engineers to support multiple concurrent research projects
• Apply strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office
Technical skills utilized in this role include strong SQL Server skills with the ability to write advanced queries; SAS, Stata, spark, web technologies, C#, Python, PowerShell, Power BI, Snowflake, and health related datasets (experience with these is ideal but not required).
Physical Effort
Light, Little physical effort. Duties are primarily Sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm; 2 days on campus, 3 days remote
Work Arrangement: Hybrid: Combination of On-Campus and Remote work as determined by the department.
