Physician (Licensed Clinical Neurologist) SITE OF SERVICE: Ft. Bragg, NC (NICoE/NCR)
- National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) provides specialized care for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Psychological Health (PH) conditions.
POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS: - Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada.
- Education: This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S Department of Education and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) at the time the degree was obtained (e.g. Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the Page 28 of 53 United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
- Internship/Residency: Successful completion of an internship and residency program (corresponding to the specialty required in the TO) which has been approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association. Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting (i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training). For purposes of this requirement, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below:
- An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training an appropriate accrediting body.
- A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by an appropriate accrediting body.
- A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training.
- Board Certification : Must be Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
- Cardiac Certifications : Must have the following hands-on certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Experience: At least two years of experience providing direct patient care in a clinical setting within the past five years, privileges as a neurologist.
- Licensure: A current, valid, unrestricted license as a Neurologist from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. For foreign medical graduates not covered above, facility officials must verify with Educational Commission of Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant.
- U.S. Citizenship : Shall be a U.S. citizen
- English Language Requirement: Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.
- Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.
DUTIES: - Diagnose and treat neurological disorders. Perform neurological examinations and interpret results of diagnostic tests, such as Magnetic resonance imaging (MRIs), CT scans, and EEGs. Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to the individual needs of patients. Providing outpatient care to patients with neurological conditions.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team, including other physicians, nurses, social workers, and therapists. Providing consultation services to other departments and specialists within the healthcare system.
- Participate in case discussions and treatment planning meetings. Periodically provide episodic care to clinic patients on a walk-in basis.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records in compliance with regulations and policies.
- Routinely examine and conduct thorough studies of presenting patients utilizing and ordering evaluation assets including electroencephalography, Magnetic-encephalography (MEG), olfactory testing, neuro-regenerative, and neuro-cognitive evaluations.
- Participate in continuing medical education to stay updated with the latest advancements in neurology.
- Interpret and integrate neurological exam test results with imaging, laboratory data, and information from other disciplines including psychiatry, physiatry, neuro-ophthalmology, and general medicine, for diagnostic and treatment purposes.
- Integrate neurological test results with imaging studies, laboratory data, and clinical findings to prescribe appropriate treatment including neuro-pharmaceuticals and refers clients to specialists within the clinic.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in neurology in collaboration with clinicians' other medical specialties on cases involving complicated and multifaceted neurological and neuropsychiatric problems.
- Oversee and educate interdisciplinary teams responsible for testing and treating patients with neurological issues, ensuring that the highest standards of professional practice and ethics are maintained.
- Continually foster and interdisciplinary approach to care that relies on pattern recognition of physical, behavioral, social, and spiritual conditions.
- Complete training to obtain knowledge and maintain competency in the following systems: MHS Genesis, Dragon dictation software, and Microsoft Office programs. Page 30 of 53
- Comply with regulatory, MTF, and Joint Commission quality inspection/ peer review/ utilization management requirements, and applicable system applications.
- Contractor employees shall prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established MTF standards, to include, but not limited to: timeliness, accuracy, content, and signature. Contractor employees shall only use DoD approved abbreviations for documentation in the patient health records. (DoDI and DoDM )
- Document and close notes in MHS Genesis within three (3) business days of patient encounters.
- Respond to beneficiary messages submitted and received in the MHS Genesis secure portal systems within one (1) business day.
HOURS: The work schedule for each contract worker under a personal services arrangement is as follows between 0600 - 1800 (typical clinic hours are 0700 - 1600, depending on location).
Base Down Days: During a planned closure of the facility due to training, closures before or after holidays family down days, Employee will only be compensated for the actual hours worked. If clinic is closed and employee is not able to work, employee will be required to use leave or take LWOP (without penalty).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
