About the Role
As a Long-Term Substitute – Language Arts & Social Studies Teacher at Merryhill School, you will support students during a planned teacher absence by delivering engaging, standards-aligned instruction in English Language Arts and Social Studies. This role is ideal for adaptable educators who are confident stepping into an established classroom environment while maintaining instructional continuity, structure, and high academic standards. This position begins in April 2026.
You will also:
Deliver prepared lesson plans in Language Arts and Social Studies, adjusting as needed to meet student needs
Promote critical thinking, literacy development, and analytical writing skills
Foster positive social and emotional development in students
Maintain a structured, organized, and engaging classroom environment
Communicate professionally with administrators and instructional teams regarding student progress and classroom needs
Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure instructional alignment and continuity
Supervise students and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Prior teaching or substitute teaching experience preferred
Background in English, History, Social Studies, or a related field strongly preferred
Ability to pass state and federal background checks
Strong classroom management, instructional, and communication skills
Flexibility, professionalism, and confidence stepping into an existing curriculum
A genuine passion for teaching and supporting student growth
