Job Title: Dairy Worker 1 Department: FAES | Animal Sciences Wooster Dairy Center The Dairy Worker is responsible for performing daily milking operations and supporting the overall care, feeding, and maintenance of dairy cattle and farm facilities. This position also provides guidance to residents/students on proper milking practices and equipment use. This position is located at the Wooster, OH Krauss dairy farm. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform milking duties following established procedures.
- Maintain bedding and feeding of dairy cattle.
- Clean and sanitize dairy barn and surrounding work areas.
- Instruct residents and/or students on milking practices and proper operation of milking equipment.
- Maintain, clean, and store milking equipment to ensure proper function and sanitation.
- Inspect dairy cattle and provide basic treatment for sickness or injury, reporting concerns as needed.
- Build, repair, and maintain farm fences.
- Perform miscellaneous farm-related tasks as assigned.
- Operate farm vehicles and equipment to haul feed, calves, and other materials safely.
Unusual Working Conditions
- Works rotating shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Works outdoors and may be exposed to varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to unpleasant odors, dairy cattle, and dangerous machinery.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers.
- Ability to read and write simple sentences.
- Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, bending, and working in a farm environment.
