The Opportunity
Tetra Tech has an immediate opening for a full‑time Civil Engineer I. This role is ideal for a motivated professional who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and has obtained an Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with the Civil Designer of Record and multidisciplinary project teams to support the development of construction drawings, technical specifications, and engineering analyses. Projects span a diverse client base, including commercial, municipal, industrial, and federal sectors. This is a remote opportunity.
Position Summary
In this role, the engineer will partner with the Civil Designer of Record and collaborate with project teams to assist in preparing construction documents, including drawings, technical specifications, and engineering analyses. The position supports a broad range of projects serving commercial, municipal, industrial, and federal clients.
Essential Job Functions
Assist in the preparation of civil engineering designs, calculations, and technical analyses under the guidance of senior engineers and the Civil Designer of Record.
Support the development of construction documents, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of projects.
Collaborate with internal project teams to ensure designs meet client requirements, regulatory standards, and quality expectations.
Perform site evaluations, data collection, and field inspections as needed to support project development.
Utilize engineering software and design tools to produce accurate and efficient design solutions.
Review and interpret applicable codes, regulations, and standards to ensure compliance across all project deliverables.
Assist with project coordination tasks, including communicating with team members and contributing to project timelines and deliverables.
Provide support during the construction phase, including responding to requests for information (RFIs) and reviewing submittals.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification.
Experience in using Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil drawings.
Experience with stormwater and water quality systems, LID/green infrastructure, grading, drainage, and street design.
Experience with water and sewer systems.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
Strong commitment to safety and quality.
A valid driver's license, and ability to travel to client offices and project sites when required (local and interstate travel required).
Must be able to pass a background screen.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using standard engineering software such as HEC‑RAS, Autodesk Stormwater and Sanitary Analysis or GeoSTORM.
Physical Requirements
Regularly required to sit and work at a computer for extended periods; occasional standing and walking within the office environment.
Occasionally required to lift/move up to 10 lbs., with infrequent lifting of up to 25 lbs.
Requires use of hands for typing, handling materials, and operating office equipment; visual abilities include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment / Environmental Factors
Work may be performed in‑office, remotely, or at project sites.
Collaboration across multiple disciplines and regional teams is required.
Anticipated 90% of time will be in an office environment, whether office, home or hybrid environment.
Travel arrangements could require several hours of driving, air flights, and overnight lodgings. Travel would be limited to within the United States.
Pay Transparency
This role can be performed from a wide range of locations throughout the U.S. The anticipated pay range for this position is $70,000 to $80,000 annually. However, the pay offered may vary depending on primary work location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Additional Information
Regular work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00am EST to 5:00pm EST. Flexible in having the position fully remote, in‑office or hybrid.
Travel between sites or offices will be required, with employees expected to operate vehicles safely under varying weather, traffic, and environmental conditions. Travel to field and meeting sites is estimated to be approximately 10% of the time.
Occasionally required to work non‑standard hours to meet project deadlines.
