Our challenge
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Applied AI Scientist / Quant Engineer to lead the development of advanced AI, machine learning, and quantitative models for mission-critical financial applications. This role combines deep technical expertise in AI/ML with strong quantitative modeling capabilities to drive innovation across trading, risk, fraud detection, and portfolio optimization
Additional Information*
The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Charlotte is $ 95k - $105k/year & benefits (see below).
The Role
Responsibilities:
Lead the design and implementation of advanced AI/ML models and quantitative algorithms for financial use cases
Develop and deploy models for risk analytics, pricing, forecasting, fraud detection, and trading strategies
Apply statistical modeling, stochastic processes, and optimization techniques
Build scalable data pipelines and model deployment frameworks
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including traders, risk managers, data engineers, and business stakeholders
Evaluate and integrate Gen AI / LLM-based solutions into financial workflows
Ensure model performance, explainability, governance, and regulatory compliance
- Mentor junior data scientists and engineers; lead technical strategy and architecture
Requirements:
Core AI/ML & Data Science:
- Strong expertise in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Statistical Modeling
- Hands-on experience with Python librariesTensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, Pandas, NumPy
- Experience with time-series analysis, forecasting, and predictive modeling
- Exposure to Generative AI / LLMs (OpenAI, Hugging Face, Azure OpenAI)
Quantitative & Financial Engineering:
- Strong background in quantitative finance, derivatives pricing, and risk modeling
- Knowledge of stochastic calculus, Monte Carlo simulations, and optimization techniques
- Experience in algorithmic trading, portfolio optimization, or credit risk models
Programming & Systems:
- Proficient in Python, C++, or Java
- Experience building high-performance, low-latency systems
- Familiarity with distributed systems, microservices, and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP)
Data Engineering & Tools:
- Experience with big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop, Kafka)
- Strong knowledge of SQL / NoSQL databases
- Experience in MLOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
Preferred, but not required:
Experience working with financial market data (equities, fixed income, derivatives)
Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (SR 11-7, Basel, CCAR)
Exposure to graph analytics, NLP, or anomaly detection models
Experience in real-time analytics and streaming systems
