Title: Maintenance Technician
Location: Durham, NC (Research Triangle Park – RTP)
Structure: 12-Month Contract-to-hire
Rate: $35-40/hr
About the Role:
We are seeking a Maintenance Technician to support a pharmaceutical manufacturing operation focused on device assembly and packaging. This position plays a critical role in maintaining highly automated production equipment, ensuring maximum uptime, reliability, and efficiency across manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will bring a strong mechanical and electrical maintenance background, a proactive troubleshooting mindset, and a commitment to safety and quality in a GMP-regulated environment.
Working closely with Operations, Engineering, and Production teams, you'll perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities, diagnose equipment issues, and help drive continuous improvement initiatives that support production goals.
What You'll Do:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on pharmaceutical manufacturing, assembly, and packaging equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automated systems to identify root causes and minimize downtime.
- Repair and overhaul equipment including gearboxes, pumps, blowers, fans, drives, and related production machinery.
- Monitor equipment performance and support improvements that increase uptime, line efficiency, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Complete maintenance documentation and work orders accurately within the CMMS system.
- Support engineering changes, equipment modifications, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with Operations and other cross-functional teams while maintaining a strong focus on safety and GMP compliance.
What You Bring:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience as a multi-craft maintenance technician with strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Hands-on experience with automated equipment, including servo motors, VFDs, PLCs, power supplies, robotics, load cells, RFID readers, and material handling systems.
- Familiarity with packaging equipment, conveyors, vacuum systems, grippers, and related manufacturing technologies.
- Experience using troubleshooting tools such as multimeters, calipers, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to work effectively in a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment and document work accurately in CMMS software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- QEW certification.
- Experience with Fanuc robots and highly automated production equipment.
- Proficiency with Maximo, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work a 12-hour day shift on a 2-2-3 schedule.
- Willingness to work overtime during shutdowns, emergency situations, or periods of increased production demand.
