Salary: $110,000 – $115,000 DOE
Reports to: Branch Controller
Our client, is seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller to support its branch operations near Greenbelt, MD. This role is critical for managing payroll, accounts receivable, and project accounting in a fast-paced construction environment.
Role Overview
You will play a key role in financial operations with a strong focus on construction-specific accounting. Primary responsibilities include processing payroll (including certified payroll and prevailing wage), managing AIA billing, performing job cost accounting, and supporting month-end close processes. The position requires close collaboration with Project Managers and corporate finance teams.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
- 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong construction accounting background (electrical contracting or MEP experience is highly preferred)
- Significant experience with construction payroll, including certified payroll, prevailing wage, multi-jurisdictional, and union (IBEW) environments
- Solid expertise in Accounts Receivable and project accounting, including AIA billing, change orders, job costing, and budget vs. actual analysis
- Experience with Spectrum ERP (or similar construction systems such as Viewpoint, Procore + financials, or Sage 300)
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally
