The Associate Chemist supports the Fremont manufacturing facility's commitment to producing safe, high-quality products. This entry-level role is responsible for performing analytical testing, supporting laboratory compliance systems, and ensuring all analyses meet company standards and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and a willingness to collaborate across multiple operational teams.
Location: Fremont, MI (onsite)
Employment Type: Minimum 6-month temporary/contract assignment (possible extension)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM (rotating shift each week)
Pay Rate: $ 23.95/hour
Primary Responsibilities
Laboratory & Analytical Support
- Collect production samples according to established schedules and procedures
- Perform routine laboratory analyses on incoming materials, in-process samples, allergens, and finished products
- Conduct analyses following approved methods, standard operating procedures, and work instructions
- Support implementation of new analytical methods, laboratory instruments, and technologies
- Manage chemical inventory, reagent preparation, standards preparation, and proper disposal procedures
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and ensure proper operation of laboratory equipment
- Prepare and coordinate samples for external laboratory analysis
- Provide flexible laboratory support during peak workloads or staffing gaps
Data & Documentation
- Perform peer review of laboratory data and test results
- Accurately document and enter laboratory results into digital systems
- Investigate out-of-specification results and escalate findings to Quality leadership
- Troubleshoot testing inconsistencies, sampling issues, and instrument abnormalities
- Review and manage reports from external laboratories
Manufacturing & Operational Support
- Collaborate with Production, Sanitation, Engineering, and Quality teams to provide laboratory support
- Assist operations personnel with troubleshooting and analytical testing support on the production floor
- Support training activities related to laboratory testing procedures and best practices
Compliance & Quality Systems
- Adhere to all Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), regulatory requirements, and Environmental Health & Safety policies
- Create, update, and maintain laboratory work instructions and documentation
- Support laboratory quality monitoring systems and internal control plans
- Participate in internal audits, proficiency testing, method validations, and verification activities
- Assist with corrective and preventive action (CAPA) investigations
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by management
Safety Responsibilities
- Follow all facility safety and environmental objectives, policies, and procedures
- Report unsafe conditions and incidents immediately
- Maintain compliance with all applicable safety and environmental regulations
- Follow all Safety & Environmental Management System procedures and programs
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, Biochemistry, or related scientific discipline preferred
- Previous laboratory, manufacturing, quality, or analytical testing experience preferred
- Entry-level candidates with relevant internship, academic laboratory, or research experience encouraged to apply
