Job DescriptionHopDrive is looking for an HR Generalist to ensure our operations run smoothly and in compliance with company standards and employment regulations. This is a hybrid position based in Richmond, VA.
You will serve as a reliable point of contact for employees, helping them navigate every step of their journey at HopDrive. You will work closely to implement policies and procedures that promote consistency and compliance across the organization. You will also coordinate with managers and cross-functional teams to handle onboarding and offboarding, benefits administration, employee records, and performance management processes, while ensuring HR practices align with applicable regulations and company policies.
Job Responsibilities:
Manage onboarding of new teammates, including offer letters, tax forms, I-9/E-Verify, benefits enrollment, handbook review, and welcome materials
Oversee offboarding processes such as exit interviews, final pay, equipment collection, benefit terminations, and COBRA administration
Administer benefits and payroll through Gusto, including open enrollment, life insurance, 401(k) plans, unemployment claims, wage garnishments, and workers' comp reporting
Maintain accurate and compliant employee records, HR documents, and handbook updates, ensuring alignment with federal and state requirements
Coordinate state/business licensing, registered agent requirements, and other compliance-related filings
Support employee relations, including performance reviews, feedback collection, PIPs, and issue resolution
Handle recruiting activities such as job descriptions, resume screening, initial phone interviews, scheduling, and background checks
Manage contractor/driver support, including 1099 distribution, time tracking edits, quarterly tax reminders, and equipment distribution/collection
Facilitate HR operations such as employee communications, feedback surveys, all-hands prep, and Gusto system updates
Administer HR compliance programs including FMLA, training distribution, and other regulatory requirements as needed
Partner with leadership and cross-functional teams to improve HR processes, ensure compliance, and enhance the employee experience
Qualifications / Skills:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
Minimum of 3–5 years of HR experience
Strong knowledge of best practices, employment regulations, and compliance requirements
Experience with HRIS/HR platforms (Gusto preferred) and benefits administration
Ability to manage multiple priorities independently while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
Resilient, enthusiastic self-starter with a problem-solving mindset
Collaborative team player with a focus on supporting both employees and leadership
Strong verbal and written communication skills; comfortable handling sensitive and confidential information
