Role Overview
Vehicle Access Engineers to support the development, integration, validation, and release of vehicle access systems across current and future vehicle programs. These roles will focus on mechanical and electronic access components, including RFHM, SPAAK, KIN, TPMS, wireless security systems, door handles, latches, locks, and Passive Entry/Passive Start (PEPS) technologies, ensuring seamless functionality, quality, and regulatory compliance from concept through production.
While candidates with validation experience are welcome, preference will be given to engineers with Design Release Engineer (DRE) or component ownership experience. Having prior exposure to the design release process provides a solid understanding of product development, stakeholder management, supplier interactions, and component lifecycle ownership, enabling a faster ramp-up on the Vehicle Access technologies being supported.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, integration, validation, and release of vehicle access systems, including:
- Door handles (manual and electronic)
- Latches, locks, and actuation systems
- Passive Entry/Passive Start (PEPS) interfaces
- Key fobs and external access components
- RFHM, SPAAK, KIN, TPMS, and wireless security systems
- Define and manage technical requirements and interface specifications with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
- Support DFMEA, PFMEA, design reviews, and engineering change management activities to ensure product robustness and quality.
- Coordinate prototype builds, vehicle integration activities, component testing, and issue resolution throughout development and production phases.
- Analyze test results, warranty data, and field performance issues, and implement corrective actions as required.
- Lead technical discussions with suppliers, including part verification, validation reviews, and quality assessments.
- Ensure compliance with OEM standards, functional requirements, regulatory requirements, and safety guidelines.
- Support product launch activities and provide engineering support during manufacturing and vehicle build events.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- 4–6 years of experience in automotive engineering, product development, or component release engineering.
- Experience with vehicle access systems or body systems, including doors, locks, latches, actuators, sensors, key fobs, or related components.
- Understanding of automotive product development and release processes, including APQP, DV/PV, and gateway reviews.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Design Release Engineer (DRE), Component Engineer, or Product Development Engineer.
- Experience with electronic access systems, PEPS, or wireless security technologies.
- Knowledge of CAN and LIN communication protocols related to body electronics.
- Familiarity with Siemens NX or similar CAD tools.
- Experience working with Tier-1 suppliers and cross-functional global teams.
- Prior experience supporting programs within a global OEM environment.
