We are seeking a skilled Field Service Mechanical Technician to join the expanding field service team. This hands-on role focuses on the mechanical installation, assembly, alignment, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and optimization of robotic systems, automation cells, conveyors, and high-speed converting machinery at customer sites across North America. The position involves extensive travel and close collaboration with controls/software technicians and engineering teams to ensure successful equipment deployment and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical installation, assembly, and alignment of robotic and automated production equipment at customer facilities.
- Support system start-up, commissioning, validation, and performance optimization for automation cells, conveyors, robotic systems, tooling, and peripheral equipment.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, layout prints, pneumatic schematics, and assembly documentation.
- Install and align robots, end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), guarding, conveyors, and automation components to specification.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues during installation and production ramp-up.
Requirements
- Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Mechanical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of field service, machine building, automation installation, commissioning, or industrial maintenance experience (commissioning/startup experience preferred over pure maintenance).
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly prints, and schematics.
- Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Basic understanding of industrial electrical systems and controls integration.
- Willingness and ability to travel (up to 70%) domestically and internationally, including potential training in Italy.
Preferred Requirements
- Experience with robotic systems (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, or Yaskawa Motoman).
- Background in high-speed rotary equipment, web handling, paper processing, converting machinery, material handling, or similar complex automated systems.
- Knowledge of PLC-controlled automation systems.
- Welding, fabrication, or machining experience.
- OSHA 10/30 certification or equivalent industrial safety training.
- Previous experience in automotive, manufacturing, warehouse automation, or related industries.
Location
This is a field-based role with travel to customer sites across North America (up to 70%). Home-base location is in West Chester, Ohio. Training may include 2–3 months in Italy, shadowing at U.S. customer sites (including a major site south of Atlanta, GA), and support from the Boston robotics/automation hub.
