This role is responsible for maintaining the accuracy of the general ledger through reconciliations, journal entries, and month end close processes while ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal controls. It also supports financial reporting, grant tracking, and cross functional coordination, while improving processes and resolving backlogs to ensure timely and reliable financial operations. Description Review and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP and internal policies Prepare and record monthly journal entries, including accruals, to support accurate and timely financial reporting Complete monthly bank reconciliations and investigate and resolve any discrepancies as they arise Partner with both accounting and operations teams to ensure consistency and accuracy across financial systems Manage recurring journal entries and support all aspects of the month end close process Maintain organized and audit ready documentation, including journal entries, bank records, and supporting files Monitor grant activity to ensure compliance with funding requirements and accurate reporting Lead process improvements to address backlogs and enhance overall efficiency and timeliness of accounting operations Profile Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within nonprofit or grant funded environments Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control practices Experience with month end close, general ledger maintenance, and financial reporting Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions Familiarity with grant accounting and compliance requirements is a plus Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines in a fast paced environment Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem solving skills Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams Job Offer Competitive pay and a strong benefits package MPI does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, or based on an individual's status in any group or class protected by applicable federal, state or local law.
