Mechanical Installation Lead
Pay Range: $40.00 to $55.00 per hour
About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Installation Lead to support the assembly, installation, and integration of industrial process equipment and piping systems in a shop-floor production environment.
In this role, you will lead daily mechanical installation activities, coordinate small crews, troubleshoot installation challenges, and help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards. What You'll Do
Lead daily mechanical assembly, industrial piping, and equipment installation activities according to the production schedule.
Read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, layout drawings, mechanical details, and technical instructions.
Coordinate mechanical, piping, electrical, and assembly work to ensure proper system integration.
Stage pipe, fittings, equipment, tools, and materials prior to installation.
Troubleshoot installation conflicts, field-fit issues, and assembly challenges in real time.
Support the installation of equipment, manifolds, skids, piping assemblies, and packaged systems.
Perform hands-on mechanical installation work as needed.
Maintain workflow, production throughput, and schedule alignment.
Perform in-process quality checks for fit, alignment, support, routing, and workmanship.
Verify completed work meets drawings, specifications, and internal quality standards.
Ensure required quality control sign-offs are completed.
Support root-cause discussions and corrective actions for recurring quality issues.
Follow and promote all safety procedures, shop rules, and PPE requirements.
Keep work areas organized, clean, and safe while coordinating multiple trades in shared spaces.
What We're Looking For
Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, industrial piping, and equipment installation.
Experience with Schedule 80 PVC piping systems, including layout, cutting, joining, and support.
Ability to lead small crews and coordinate skilled work in a shop-floor environment.
Ability to read and work from P&IDs, isometric drawings, layout drawings, and mechanical details.
Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Basic computer skills, including email, spreadsheets, and production trackers.
Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with production teams, supervisors, and other trades.
Nice to Have
Experience installing industrial process equipment, manifolds, skids, or packaged systems.
Experience with rigging, lifting, setting, and aligning equipment.
Exposure to welding principles, fabrication fit-up, or metal fabrication processes.
Experience coordinating installation work with electricians or controls technicians.
Advanced Excel skills, including formulas, tables, charts, and basic data analysis.
Experience with 5S, lean manufacturing, or continuous improvement practices.
Experience in wastewater, water treatment, industrial process, or manufacturing environments.
Technical training, trade school certification, associate degree, or advanced degree from an accredited institution.
Physical and Work Requirements
Daily shop-floor presence is required.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Must wear required PPE.
Must be comfortable working around mechanical equipment, piping assemblies, tools, and production materials.
May operate forklifts, scissor lifts, telehandlers, or other equipment as qualified or trained.
Occasional overtime may be required based on workload and production schedules.
Occasional hands-on installation of equipment, manifolds, and piping assemblies is required.
Employees are expected to provide personal hand tools customarily used for mechanical assembly and piping work.
Compensation
$40.00 to $55.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
