Senior Facilities Technicianto work in a mission critical role of assisting the Laboratory Operations & Safety Manager in maintaining the daily operations of our state-of-the-art R&D laboratories. The Senior Facilities Technician will facilitate and coordinate a wide range of laboratory activities, including coordinating projects & contractors; maintaining & servicing equipment; tracking tools, equipment & materials; scheduling equipment calibration; purchase orders; administrative duties; and generating periodic reports. As Zeta Energy transitions its game-changing technology from the laboratory to the factory floor, the Senior Facilities Technician will support the commercialization of patented, high-energy, high-power, and low-cost battery technology.
You will be expected to stay organized, have a positive attitude, and consistently keep our R&D laboratory working effectively and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Operations Manager and staff to consistently provide a high level of facilitation to Zeta Energy projects, suppliers, vendors, and contractors
Assist in coordinating the improvement of existing laboratory infrastructure and facilitating future buildout
Perform in-house routine maintenance and service, including installing, inspecting, diagnosing, analyzing, and repairing, of general facilities and laboratory mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems (e.g. HVAC, scrubber, water, compressed gases, filters, piping, electrical outlets, and other facilities infrastructure and equipment). Source, select, and coordinate contractors as necessary
Supervise and train junior mechanical/electrical and chemical process technicians dedicated to specific laboratory equipment and machinery
Help maintain high standards within the laboratories: coordinate the generation and update of standard operating procedures to accurately document all processes performed in the laboratory
Execute corrective and preventive maintenance for laboratory and manufacturing equipment and tools
Maintain and document laboratory and manufacturing equipment before and during installation, operation, failure, maintenance, and decommissioning
Schedule, conduct, and periodically improve internal laboratory auditing processes
Organize and conduct routine and periodic safety inspections
Ensure laboratory HAZMAT is appropriately managed and disposed, including but not limited to managing SDS documentation; helping develop safety protocols, risk assessments, and control measures; and ensuring inventory is indexed and accurate
Coordinate the calibration, qualification, servicing, and maintenance of all equipment, instruments, and tools during procurement and after installation
Assist in the management of "Concerns/Troubles" log used by scientist/engineers to document problems and trace corrective actions and resolution
Create, log, track, and monitor purchase requests and coordinate shipping, delivery, and installation of equipment, tools, and consumables
Organize material shipping, including hazardous materials
Administrative tasks as assigned or as necessary
Requirements:
High school diploma and relevant skilled trade training/certification (e.g. mechanical, machining, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, construction, welding, etc.) required
5+ years of experience in mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing (MEP) in a commercial/industrial/manufacturing or a relevant environment
Experience with facilities or engineering operations, including mechanical, machining, electrical, plumbing, construction, structural, and/or environmental
Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and/or machining fundamentals
Understand the design, use, and maintenance of tools and machinery
Demonstrated hands-on skills installing and/or repairing facilities infrastructure, equipment and/or machinery in a commercial, industrial, manufacturing, or laboratory environment
Track record of hands-on experience and good judgement with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, pneumatic, vacuum, and/or hydraulic equipment, instruments, and tools
Working knowledge of HVAC, air abatement, fume hood controls, and other elements of laboratory infrastructure
Ability to read, understand, and redline MEP drawings, process flow diagrams (PFD), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID)
Understanding of regulatory requirements for laboratories, shipping and disposal of hazardous materials, e.g., OSHA health & safety regulations, hazardous materials regulations, etc.
Very professional with a strong sense of urgency, highly organized, and detail-oriented
Ability to coordinate projects and contractors
Excellent verbal & written communication skills; ability to prepare professional, quality reports; and skills on MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to respond appropriately and coordinate others during emergencies; ability to evacuate the facility in a timely manner should an emergency arise; and ability to wear and properly use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) if working or visiting within the laboratory area. PPE may include safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, hard hat, or other equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
Location and Travel Requirements:
This position is located in Houston, Texas. Travel may include local trips within Texas and occasionally to other states to support Zeta Energy projects and assets, to collaborate with partners and vendors, or to attend training courses.
