Code Enforcement Officer
Under general direction, makes inspections of grounds and properties for compliance/violations within City jurisdiction to ensure conformance with applicable codes.
Illustrative duties include:
- Enforcing municipal, property maintenance codes and ordinances.
- Responding to complaints of code violations related to signage, nuisances, housing conditions, weeds, dumping, and other code-related matters.
- Entering inspection reports into the city computer system.
- Preparing and maintaining correspondence, written warnings, citations, records, and reports relating to code enforcement issues and actions.
- Conducting field inspections of violations and taking appropriate action to correct the violations.
- Logging complaints, assigning case numbers, and establishing case files.
- Performing vacant structure inspections.
- Representing the City in a professional manner and effectively dealing with the public to gain their cooperation in resolving problems and concerns.
- Providing information to persons who request information or assistance in code enforcement matters.
- Meeting with owners, tenants, contractors, business owners, etc., to review violations and explain code requirements to achieve code compliance.
- Performing related duties as required.

Full-time position. $42,551 - $52,124 annually, $20.46 - $25.06 hourly.
Qualifications include:
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Computer proficiency and demonstrated knowledge of related software programs, office equipment, and other tools utilized during field inspections are required. Must possess ICC certification or have the ability to obtain certification, and pass the I.P.M.C. test within 12 months of hire.
Physical requirements include:
Ability to perform duties in various indoor/outdoor temperatures and climates. Perform moderate to heavy repetitive labor. Moderate to heavy bending, stooping, lifting, repetitive walking, or standing for long periods of time. Ability to operate the internal radio system. Must maintain the physical requirements to successfully pass the Essential Job Function Test as required for this position.

Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, methods, techniques, practices, and code enforcement, laws, codes, standards, and polices relating to code enforcement. Ability to consistently establish and maintain effective and courteous relationships with public and internal staff under stressful conditions while projecting a professional image.
