Job Requirements / Qualifications
- Board Certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery (cardiac surgeon or thoracic surgeon)
- Active state medical license or eligibility through the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC)
- DEA license required
- Minimum 1 year of cardiothoracic surgery experience (cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery)
- Fellowship training in cardiothoracic surgery preferred
- Ability to participate reliably in a 1:3 call rotation and provide beeper/paging coverage
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide beeper/paging call coverage for cardiothoracic surgery as the locum tenens surgeon
- Perform cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures, including:
- On-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
- Valvular repair and replacement (aortic, mitral, etc.)
- Cardiac aneurysm repair
- Insertion and management of central and arterial lines, pulmonary artery (PA) catheter, and intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP)
- Evaluate and manage acute hemodynamic/volume issues and surgical emergencies
- Collaborate with ICU, anesthesia, perfusion, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care
Preferred Skills
- Experience with ventilator management and bronchoscopy (preferred)
- Experience with lung resection, chest wall, and pleural procedures (preferred)
- Strong triage and acute care decision-making skills for trauma and emergency cases
