Job role- Platform Architect
Location: San Antonio, TX • Findlay, OH • Denver, CO • Hybrid (4 days onsite / 1 day remote)
Duration: 1-Year Contract
Overview
Client is seeking an Infrastructure Architect / Lead Engineer to support mission-critical Operational Technology (OT) environments for Marathon Petroleum Corporation—one of the largest downstream energy companies in the United States.
This team is filling two roles
Platform Architect / Lead Engineer (Windows + Linux)The manager is open to hiring either profile immediately.
Both roles blend architecture + hands-on engineering, supporting new capability design, implementation, operational readiness, and high-priority production support.
Platform Architect / Lead Engineer (Windows + Linux)
Key Responsibilities
· Lead strategy and design for a future 65% Windows / 35% Linux platform environment.
· Define enterprise-supported Linux OS patterns and operational models.
· Architect and implement Configuration & Patch Management solutions (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, SaltStack).
· Lead creation of on-prem DevOps tooling, CI/CD workflows, and infrastructure automation.
· Design and deploy enterprise backup capabilities (Rubrik, Commvault, Veeam).
· Build and optimize logging and observability pipelines (Cribl, Bindplane).
· Support escalations, RCAs, hardening, and production operations.
Must-Have Expertise
· Strong Windows engineering AND strong Linux engineering (RHEL preferred).
· Platform automation, on-prem IaC, and CI/CD workflows.
· Configuration management tooling (Ansible/Puppet/Chef/SaltStack).
· Logging and pipeline tools (Cribl, Bindplane).
· Backup/recovery technologies (Rubrik, Veeam, Commvault).
· Ability to design and drive operationalization: RACI, SOPs, training.
Secondary / Nice-to-Have Skills
· Networking fundamentals: BGP, OSPF, RSTP, Cisco IOS, Arista EOS, SONiC.
· Storage, compute, and virtualization: VMware vSphere/vSAN.
· Scripting: PowerShell, Bash, Python.
· Backup platforms: Rubrik, Commvault, Avamar, Veeam.
· Additional IAM/IGA: Saviynt, CyberArk.
