About the Role
We're seeking a hands-on Traveling Mechanical Service Technician to install, commission, troubleshoot, and service heavy industrial equipment at customer sites across the U.S. When not traveling, you'll support manufacturing operations by assembling generators, enclosures, piping systems, and other industrial components.
What You'll Do
- Travel to customer locations for equipment installation, startup, maintenance, and warranty service.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Assemble and install industrial equipment, tanks, generators, louvers, dampers, piping, and structural components.
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and rigging equipment to move heavy materials safely.
- Inspect, test, and troubleshoot mechanical systems to ensure quality and performance.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and provide feedback on design enhancements.
- Maintain OSHA-compliant safety standards and assist in mentoring junior team members.
- Additional Pay Information:
- $1.50/hour extra anytime you are traveling
- AVL has service trucks for field work. Planes will be used for further distances, of course.
- According to AVL's travel policy, they will reimburse for meals, hotels, airlines, etc.
What We're Looking For
? 3–5+ years of mechanical assembly or heavy industrial equipment experience
? Experience with forklifts, overhead cranes, rigging, and material handling
? Ability to read blueprints and mechanical drawings
? Comfortable lifting 50–75 lbs and working in a manufacturing environment
? Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
? Ability to travel 50–75% throughout the U.S.
? ISO 9001 manufacturing experience is a plus
? Valid passport preferred
