Industrial Engineer
TSC is seeking a highly skilled Industrial Engineer to support defense manufacturing efforts in Huntsville, AL location. This role is responsible for driving efficiency, standardization, and process improvements across production systems that support mission-critical defense programs. The ideal candidate will have a hands-on approach to optimizing labor, process, materials, space, flow, and equipment in support of high-reliability manufacturing and complex assembly operations.
- Lead production capacity analysis package including people, process, materials, flow, space and equipment etc.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and program teams to optimize the utilization of capital equipment, facilities, materials, and labor.
- Apply operations research and mathematical modeling to evaluate system performance and support production planning, resource allocation, and decision-making.
- Participate and contribute to design review and pre-production review (PRR)
- Monitor and analyze labor burn rates, resource utilization, and project expenditures at both the program and cost account.
- Analyze current-state material flow processes and identify improvement opportunities in routing, storage, and handling of components.
- Develop and implement optimized material flow strategies that reduce waste, bottlenecks, and downtime.
- Design material delivery methods include kitting, sequencing, conveyance routes, and line-side presentation.
- Collaborate with production, logistics, engineering, and supply chain teams to align material flow with production schedules and capacity needs.
- Lead layout planning and updates related to material movement, point-of-use storage, and workstation design.
- Support new product introductions by developing material flow plans and ensuring readiness of internal logistics.
- Lead Lean projects aimed at improving process flow, increasing efficiency, and reducing non-value-added activity throughout the facility.
- Conduct value stream mapping, time studies, root-cause analysis, and other diagnostic assessments to identify improvement opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5 years of experience in Lean manufacturing, process engineering, or continuous improvement roles.
- Strong knowledge of Lean tools such as VSM, Kaizen, 5S, Kanban, SMED, and Standard Work.
- Experience with manufacturing planning, resource modeling, and process documentation in a classified or export-controlled environment.
- Proficient with advanced plant simulation software, such as FlexSim etc.
- Proficient with engineering and manufacturing software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Visio, ERP/MRP systems, CostPoint).
- Experience with MES, such as Factorylogix etc,
- Proficient with Microsoft suite (PowerPoint, Project, Visio etc.) and presentation skills.
- Strong understanding of lean principles, PFEP (Plan for Every Part), material replenishment systems (Kanban, supermarket), and line-side inventory control.
- Ability to interpret and create layout drawings, process flows, and standard work documentation.
- Proficiency with Excel, CAD tools, and data analysis software.Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing production demands.
