Operating Engineer – JLLWhat this job involves:As an Operating Engineer, you will be responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment across multiple building systems, including Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Fire, and Life Safety. You are expected to bring deep technical expertise in at least one craft area — whether Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, or Central Utility Plant Operations — while also being multi-skilled enough to take on a variety of daily and weekly work assignments. This is a hands-on, field-based role where your commitment to safety, precision, and continuous improvement directly impacts the experience of everyone in the facilities you support. We embrace more innovative ways of working, and in this position, you'll have the tools, the team, and the opportunity to grow your craft within a global organization that prioritizes your development.What your day-to-day will look like:Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs to Mechanical, Plumbing, Structural, Furniture, Fire, Life Safety, and Control systems to keep facilities up to applicable standardsMaintain HVAC systems and associated equipment at optimum performance levels through cleaning, inspecting, calibrating, and changing parts as neededRecord equipment readings and make necessary adjustments to ensure proper operation at all timesReview client service request summaries to identify and correct recurring operational issues, coordinating closely with vendors and internal teams — reflecting our culture of collaborationMonitor quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors and evaluate vendors regularly for performance and competitivenessComply with all departmental policies for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials, maintaining a clean and safe workplace at all timesPerform periodic checks of tool and instrument inventory and maintain responsibility for purchasing, inventory control, and preventative maintenance programsRequired Qualifications:High school diploma or GED equivalent2–4 years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial building systemsAbility to analyze the operation of commercial or industrial Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC systems, identify root causes of malfunctions, and take corrective actionAbility to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manualsPhysical ability to bend, sit, kneel, squat, stand, reach, and lay for extended periods to access equipment components; ability to work in varying environmental conditions including heat, cold, and outdoor exposurePreferred Qualifications:EPA 608 Universal / CFC Universal CertificationTwo or more years of trade school education in electrical systems, refrigeration, or HVACAccredited trade school degree or union training and certification in an industry-related tradeProficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as CorrigoKnowledge of proper and safe use of tools including ladders, lifts, volt meters, manual drain augers, and related equipmentExperience evaluating vendors and verifying accuracy of deliveries for count, pricing, and descriptionLocation: Charleston, WVSchedule: M-F 7:30AM - 4:30PMThis position does not provide visa sponsorship.
