The General Manager of The Spaniard is responsible for maintaining and building on its reputation as an iconic West Village neighborhood staple while delivering consistently excellent, high-volume service. This role calls for a hands-on hospitality leader who leads from the floor, builds genuine relationships with regulars, and runs busy services with confidence, warmth, clarity, and control - ensuring The Spaniard continues to be a positive and respected presence in the neighborhood.
THE ROLE
Hospitality & Guest Experience
- Set the tone for genuine, welcoming, high-energy hospitality
- Maintain a strong floor presence during peak service and late nights
- Build authentic relationships with regulars and first-time guests
- Resolve guest issues with professionalism, humor, and discretion
- Protect and maintain the bar’s lively, inclusive and neighborhood-driven vibe
Service Leadership & Team Culture
- Recruit, train, and retain top hospitality talent
- Lead from the front during high-volume service
- Coach teams on standards, consistency, and guest interaction
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and pride
- Develop internal leaders and future managers
Operations & Business Performance
- Drive revenue through great service and repeat business
- Manage labor, inventory, and controllable costs
- Track sales trends and spot opportunities to improve performance
- Partner with ownership on big-picture goals
- Maintain positive relationships with neighbors and vendors
WHO YOU ARE
- 5+ years of senior management experience in NYC high-volume bars
- Strong understanding of high-volume operations and West Village clientele
- A team player with proven ability to lead calmly and decisively under pressure
- A people-first leader who balances high standards with approachability
- Someone who genuinely enjoys coaching people and building strong teams
