Under general supervision of the Interagency Recovery Coordination Assistant Director, the Office Technician (OT) (Typing) performs a variety of general office and clerical work functions to ensure internal support relating to the provision of federal and state disaster recovery programs within the Cal OES Recovery Operations Directorate. As part of the Interagency Recovery Coordination Branch (IRC) the OT provides support for six primary recovery outcomes: Community Planning and Capacity Building, Economic Recovery, Health and Social Services, Housing, Infrastructure, and Natural and Cultural Resources. The OT assists with a range of electronic documentation preparation to support operations closely aligned with the National Disaster Recovery Framework (NDRF), California Disaster Recovery Framework (CDRF), and works in coordination with Public Assistance (PA) and Individual Assistance (IA) to identify and integrate whole community solutions for state, community, individual and family disaster recovery.
Performs a broad range of general office duties including typing, dictation, and transcription; mail and document handling; records management; document preparation including compliance with section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act for ADA accessible documents; composition of correspondence; oral communications; statistical and other record keeping. The OT is also responsible for preparing meeting agendas, running communications on virtual meetings (MS TEAMS or ZOOM), taking comprehensive written notes, and submitting executive travel expense claims and time keeping records as needed.
Works with guidance under strict regulatory and administrative deadlines to maintain a routine workload and respond to short term special projects and priority assignments. Together with general administrative, clerical, and technical assistance tasks, the OT (Typing) duties also include the ability to type at a speed of not less than 40 words per minute from ordinary manuscript or printed or typewritten material.

Hybrid Telework : This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Additional in office days may be required based on the business need.

The Recovery Directorate is responsible for managing disaster recovery and providing assistance to local governments, special districts, certain nonprofit organizations, individuals, businesses and agricultural communities impacted by disasters. The Recovery Directorate ensures state and federal support are provided in an efficient and timely manner throughout the recovery process.
The Recovery Directorate is comprised of three sections - Recovery Operations, Hazard Mitigation, and Interagency Recovery Coordination. Recovery personnel are responsible for assisting in the management of statewide disaster recovery efforts, as well as assisting agricultural communities, businesses, certain nonprofit organizations, individuals, local governments and special districts impacted by disasters.
In the event of an emergency, employees may be contacted and requested to report to work in the event of an emergency. This contact may be outside of your normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays). This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites.

Special Requirements - The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.
Typing Certification is required when applicants apply for State civil service clerical positions such as Office Assistant (Typing) and Office Technician (Typing). The specific typing requirement will be noted in the Class Specification.
State departments will honor typing certificates issued within the last four years, and certified from a five (5) minute typing test that meets the CalHR requirements, with a minimum of 40 WPM (words per minute).
Acceptable Certificates must be 5 minutes in length and proctored either virtually or in person .The California Department of Human Resources will not accept typing certifications from tests that were not proctored or less than 5 minutes long.
