Core4ce is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to support the design, development, and deployment of data-intensive backend systems in a government contracting environment. This role focuses on building and maintaining data pipelines, supporting real-time data processing workflows, and integrating secure APIs that enable mission-critical systems to operate at scale. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in software engineering, an interest in distributed systems and data engineering, and a commitment to building reliable, secure, and maintainable production systems.
Key ResponsibilitiesData Integration and ETL Development:
- Support the design and implementation of ETL pipelines that ingest, validate, transform, and correlate data from multiple sources.
- Work with structured data schemas such as XSD, Avro, and Protobuf to enforce data consistency and enable schema evolution.
- Assist in maintaining unified data models that support downstream analytics and operational systems.
- Implement data quality checks and validation logic to ensure integrity across changing data sources.
Real-Time and Streaming Data Processing
- Contribute to the development of low-latency streaming pipelines using tools such as Kafka and Spark.
- Support containerized microservices that process high-volume data in distributed environments.
- Monitor system performance and help optimize reliability, scalability, and fault tolerance.
API and Downstream Systems Integration
- Develop and maintain backend APIs that expose processed data to internal and external consumers.
- Implement clean data contracts to ensure reliable integration with downstream applications.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather integration requirements and troubleshoot data flow issues.
Backend Infrastructure and Production Support
- Develop Python-based backend services and data processors.
- Deploy and maintain services in containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Support cloud-based infrastructure, relational and non-relational databases, and data warehouse systems.
- Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting to ensure operational visibility and maintainability.
Cybersecurity and Secure Development
- Apply security-first design principles consistent with government contracting requirements.
- Follow secure coding practices and support compliance with applicable security standards.
- Participate in code reviews and system hardening efforts to reduce risk and improve resilience.

Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 0-3 years of professional experience in software engineering or data engineering.
- Proficiency in Python or a similar backend programming language.
- Familiarity with REST APIs and microservice architectures.
- Exposure to containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
- Basic understanding of data modeling and schema management.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with Kafka, Spark, or other streaming platforms.
- Exposure to cloud environments such as AWS or Azure.
- Familiarity with structured schema formats such as XSD, Avro, or Protobuf.
- Understanding of distributed systems and high-availability architectures.
- Experience supporting systems in secure or regulated environments.
