Grounds Maintenance Laborer Lead

Under limited supervision, the Grounds Maintenance Laborer Lead Worker leads a work team of diverse individuals, prioritizing, assigning and coordinating team activities to maintain landscaped areas, roads, drainage areas and parking lots of assigned facilities on commercial or public facilities. Employees in this position ensure that grounds are maintained in safe and pristine condition. This job class requires practical skill and knowledge of grounds keeping practices, procedures, supplies and equipment and the ability to perform the grounds keeping job functions with attention to knowing and using safe work practices.
Typical duties include: prioritizing and assigning tasks, maintaining supplies and equipment, training and assisting workers, mowing grass, using a string trimmer, pulling weeds, using a leaf and/or snow blower, manually picking up and disposing of trash, trimming hedges, repairing fencing, planting grass, flowers, trees and shrubs, monitoring equipment, directing traffic, frequently traveling to work sites, and performing other duties and special projects as assigned.
Minimum qualifications include: meeting all requirements of the worker position being led, at least one year of work experience in grounds keeping, ability to work collaboratively and professionally on a team, ability to follow instructions and present information, ability to work safely and train others in safety, ability to manage and track material resources and time, mathematical ability, ability to work independently and as a team, flexibility to adapt to changing work priorities, demonstrated organizational, problem-solving and common sense skills, customer service skills, and ability to travel to various facilities.
Education requirements: High School Diploma or GED.
Certificates or licenses required: Valid Driver's License.
Physical requirements include: standing and walking, maneuvering around equipment, bending, kneeling, squatting, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling and shoveling, lifting of equipment up to 50 pounds, pushing or pulling equipment weighing up to 75 pounds, and carrying a 20-pound backpack blower.
Work environment includes: work performed at a customer's location on job sites in a construction environment with various tools, and mechanical, electrical and construction equipment. Transporting to work locations within the site. At times, may be required to work in confined spaces. Employees may be exposed to hazardous equipment, toxic substances, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat. Travel between facilities and work locations may be required.
